The Community Youth Band is directed by Ronnie Sherlock. His students have earned superior ratings performing in local, state, and national competitions, touring the United States, and Europe. The Louisiana Millennium Honor Band touring Europe in 2000 was named the Dream Team by the Advocate newspaper. This year’s band received a proclamation from the Alamo officials and the city, for an impressive performance in the Alamo May 15, and performed in Sea World.

The Symphonic Band promotes music for those students that want to play above average music in an ensemble for all school age musicians. This summer will be the second Summer Band Camp for this group. This band program is open to all area students. The majority of last year’s beginners that chose to audition this year for the E.B.R. Parish Honor band succeeded, in all four levels including the Senior High Symphonic Band. This is the key to college scholarships.

The fee for year round parents is only $35.00 each month. Families pay less for their second child. See Ronnie Sherlock Band.com for all class schedules. I will work with you, if your child really wants to play. The general public “Summer Band only” price for Band Camp is $120.00 for the June and July classes this summer. Registration is June 16, at 7:45 to 8:15 a.m. New students will be able to try all band instruments to make an accurate decision.

All rehearsals will be held at 2791 O‘Neal at the Riverdale Baptist Church during the regular school year. Discipline problems, and students using foul language, WILL BE dismissed from membership in this group immediately! 

Summer Band Camp classes are every Monday and Wednesday June 16 – July 30, 2008.                       

8:15 a.m.  –  9:15 New Beginners class. Beginners can audition for the desired instrument

                         to learn this summer June 16 at 8:00 a.m. Rental instruments are possible.

9:15 a.m. – 10:15 Intermediate Band – Book 2 - Student’s that have mastered Book I.

10:15 a.m. – 11:45 Advanced High School

12:00 – 1:00 Book I - lesson 12 – Students with limited experience not finishing book I.                                                                                                                                                                                     

               This class is designed to continue the beginner’s class from Riverdale this year.

Advanced students are welcome to borrow an instrument and learn a new instrument this summer for the same fee!  Enrichment classes are available on selected Thursdays consisting of field trips to musical and cultural events of interest in our community.

SCHOOL SCHEDULE - beginning in August 2008

8:45 a.m. Flute a phone class grades 3&4 meeting Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.                                    

9:30 a.m.  BEGINNING BAND class Book 1 Ed Sueta lesson 1 for grades 5 and up.  

10:30 –11:30 CONCERT BAND Class students – Book 2 Ed Sueta. Class meets                                      Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Sign up for one class each week if you wish, only $24.00 per month. Two or more classes each week are $ 35.00.  

12:00 – 12:20- Any advanced student needing help for Solo performance or performance music.  Monday, & Wednesday   

12:30–1:50 SYMPHONIC BAND CLASS – Advanced High school level ONLY.  All major scales must be mastered to participate! Class meets on Monday and Wednesday.

1:50 – FIVE minute announcement meeting for parents. At 2:00 the next class arrives.

2:00–2:50 - Intermediate Band beginning the year on Book 1 lesson 15 ED Sueta.

Parental comment: Ronnie Sherlock’s Band is incredible. My kids have learned so much from Ronnie. I was amazed at the Christmas concert by the intense level of music they played and how well they played it! Mr. Sherlock and I go way back.
